A man has been taken into custody following a burglary at the residence of England Test captain Ben Stokes while he was in Pakistan for a Test series. The incident occurred on the evening of October 17, when Stokes’ wife and two children were at home in County Durham, northeast England.
According to police reports, the break-in involved "masked" burglars who managed to steal several valuable items. A 32-year-old suspect has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and has since been released on bail.
Stokes revealed that among the stolen items was a medal he received as part of the 2020 New Year Honours, which recognized his contributions to England's World Cup victory in 2019. In a post on his personal X account, Stokes shared images of other stolen belongings, including a Christian Dior handbag, a gold ring featuring the England cricket insignia, and various bracelets.
The England captain expressed his concern regarding the emotional toll of the incident on his family, stating, "By far the worst thing about this crime is that it was carried out whilst my wife and two young children were in the house." He added, "Thankfully, none of my family came to any physical harm. Understandably, however, the experience has had an impact on their emotional and mental state."
Stokes emphasized the severity of the situation, reflecting on how it could have turned out much worse. The burglary coincided with England's recent Test series in Pakistan, where they lost 2-1.
