Babar Azam's Bat Takes Center Stage at the Melbourne Cricket Ground
I played a World Cup final using this bat. I have many good memories here at the MCG [...] it is one of the best grounds of my career. Having my bat placed here alongside those of great players is truly a privilege."
Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has joined the ranks of cricketing legends with his bat now displayed in the prestigious Long Room at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). This honor was confirmed by Geo News, highlighting the significance of this recognition in the world of cricket.
The Long Room, an iconic venue within the MCG, showcases bats from numerous cricket greats, including Don Bradman, David Boon, Jack Hobbs, and Brian Lara. In a special invitation from the MCG management, Babar was asked to donate the bat he used during the T20 World Cup 2022 final against England, a request he was proud to accept.
Expressing his sentiments about this milestone, Babar reflected on his connection to the MCG, stating, "Honestly, it is an honor for me, and this means a lot to me because I played a World Cup final using this bat. I have many good memories here at the MCG [...] it is one of the best grounds of my career. Having my bat placed here alongside those of great players is truly a privilege."
Recently, Babar stepped down as Pakistan's white-ball captain, a decision that was accepted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Following this change, Mohammad Rizwan has been appointed as the new captain for the limited-overs format, with Salman Ali Agha serving as vice-captain.
Pakistan's cricket team has arrived in Australia, preparing for their first ODI, which will take place at the MCG on Monday. The squad for the tour includes players such as Aamir Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Arafat Minhas, Babar Azam, and Haris Rauf, among others.
