Sunil Gavaskar, the former India cricketer, has raised a significant point regarding the leadership of the Indian cricket team ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia. With Rohit Sharma's availability for the first two Tests in doubt due to personal reasons, Gavaskar has suggested that the team should appoint a new permanent captain if Rohit is unable to participate in the early matches.
Gavaskar emphasized that it is crucial for the team to have a consistent leader throughout the series. He proposed that if Rohit misses the first two Tests, the vice-captain, currently pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, should be made the captain for the entire series. This decision, according to Gavaskar, would provide the team with the stability it needs, especially after India’s disappointing 0-3 whitewash at home against New Zealand.
