Cricket Association of Bengal Awaits BCCI’s Decision on KKR vs LSG Rescheduling Due to Security Concerns

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is waiting for a reply from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on whether the IPL 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) can be rescheduled. The match, which was scheduled to be held on April 6 at Eden Gardens, is now uncertain after Kolkata Police officially asked for its postponement because of security issues related to the Ram Navami celebrations.

Security Issues Trigger Request for Rescheduling

The Kolkata Police, relying on the huge security needs all over the city on April 6 for Ram Navami, conveyed their inability to give the requisite security arrangements for the high-profile cricket game. The Joint Commissioner of Police (HQ), Meeraj Khalid, asserted that a formal request was made to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to reschedule the match. But so far, no official word has been received on whether the match will be rescheduled or shifted to a different venue.

CAB President Snehasish Ganguly accepted the request and added that they have approached BCCI for advice. "We have asked the BCCI to take into consideration shifting the match to a later date. But till now, we have not got any official feedback on whether it will be postponed to a different date or shifted to another stadium," Ganguly informed ANI.

Eden Gardens' Role in IPL 2025

Eden Gardens will be a major venue for the IPL 2025, featuring a number of high-profile matches, including the first match and the final. The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League will begin with a blockbuster match between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 22. In addition, the legendary stadium will also host the season finale on May 25, the first time since 2013 and 2015 that the IPL final will be held at Eden Gardens.

Adding to the thrill, Eden Gardens is also going to stage the decisive Qualifier 2 on May 23.
