Cummins Eyes First Test Series Victory Over India on Home Soil
Reflecting on Australia’s recent struggles against India, Cummins noted, “We've lost the last two series against them [in Australia], so this is a big one.” Australia last held the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2014, when they defeated India 2-0.
Australian captain Pat Cummins is setting his sights on a long-awaited achievement: a Test series victory over India. Despite multiple attempts both at home and away, Cummins has yet to taste victory in a Test series against the Indian team. With a home series set to begin on November 22 in Perth, he sees this as a prime opportunity to “tick off” this goal, especially given Australia’s expectation to perform strongly on their own turf.
Reflecting on Australia’s recent struggles against India, Cummins noted, “We've lost the last two series against them [in Australia], so this is a big one.” Australia last held the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2014, when they defeated India 2-0. Since then, India has consistently come out on top in four successive series, including two victories on Australian soil.
This time around, however, India’s confidence may be slightly shaken after their recent home series loss, their first in 12 years. Cummins hopes this setback could benefit Australia, saying, “Any time a team’s under pressure, it’s not a bad thing if you’re playing against them.” He acknowledges, however, that India has thrived under pressure before and will look to make an impact once again.
With both teams eyeing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australia is ready to put their best foot forward on home ground.
