Former Australia head coach Darren Lehmann has been appointed as the new head coach of Northamptonshire, signing a two-year contract with the club. Lehmann will take charge at Wantage Road starting in February, succeeding John Sadler, who departed from the role following a disappointing season that saw the team eliminated in the Vitality Blast quarter-finals and struggle in the County Championship.
Lehmann's Coaching Journey
At 54 years old, Lehmann brings a wealth of experience to Northamptonshire. He previously took a step back from coaching duties after suffering a heart attack in 2020 but has remained active in cricket, serving as a commentator for ABC during the Australian summer. His coaching credentials include leading Australia to a 5-0 Ashes victory in the 2013-14 series and winning the Big Bash League with Brisbane Heat in the 2012-13 season. More recently, he was involved with the Brisbane Heat as an assistant coach during their 2023-24 title run.
