David Warner Issues a Warning to India's Batters Ahead of Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Warner also noted that Australia would need to be at their best to overcome India, who remains a formidable side. Despite Australia's victories over India in recent tournaments, such as the 2023 World Cup final and the WTC Final, they have struggled against India in recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, losing on two occasions at home.
As India’s batters struggled in their recent Test series defeat to New Zealand, former Australian opener David Warner has warned the Indian team ahead of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He highlighted the fragility of India's batting lineup, particularly the lack of form shown by senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli during the whitewash against the Kiwis, which has raised concerns for India’s prospects in the upcoming tour of Australia.
Warner acknowledged that the New Zealand team’s historic victory was a big blow to India, as they became the first team since England in 2012 to defeat India in a Test series at home, and the first to achieve a 3-0 whitewash in India. Warner praised New Zealand's performance, particularly their exceptional fielding and catching, which set the tone for their dominant series win.
Despite the difficulties India faced, Warner said that if he were in India's shoes, he would be nervous ahead of the upcoming Test series against Australia, especially given the strength of the Australian bowling attack. "I’d be nervous if I’m in that batting order," Warner remarked, as Australia prepares to host India for a five-match series starting on November 22. He also emphasized that India’s loss to New Zealand has complicated their road to a third consecutive World Test Championship (WTC) final.
However, Warner also noted that Australia would need to be at their best to overcome India, who remains a formidable side. Despite Australia's victories over India in recent tournaments, such as the 2023 World Cup final and the WTC Final, they have struggled against India in recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, losing on two occasions at home. Warner pointed out that Australia's top order would need to perform well, especially with India’s fast bowlers like Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj posing a significant challenge.
Warner also highlighted that senior Indian players, including Sharma, Kohli, and others like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, will be motivated to perform well as they approach the latter stages of their careers. He believes they will be determined to leave a strong legacy, particularly in such a crucial series, and will be looking to score big runs in Australia.
