"Don't Talk About Australia Now": Sunil Gavaskar's Advice Amidst India's Struggles
After losing the first Test in Bengaluru, India faced further difficulties in the second Test in Pune, where New Zealand has established a significant lead in the third innings. Given the circumstances, saving the match poses a considerable challenge for the Indian side.
As the Indian cricket team grapples with a challenging Test series against New Zealand, former captain Sunil Gavaskar has urged players and commentators to keep their focus on the current matches instead of looking ahead to the much-anticipated India vs. Australia series starting on November 22.
After losing the first Test in Bengaluru, India faced further difficulties in the second Test in Pune, where New Zealand has established a significant lead in the third innings. Given the circumstances, saving the match poses a considerable challenge for the Indian side.
While commentating on the second day of the Test, Dinesh Karthik mentioned the upcoming Australia series, prompting Gavaskar to interject. "Don't talk about Australia now. That is a mistake that a lot of people often make. You've got to worry about what's happening now. Your focus should be only on what's happening at the moment. Australia will take care of itself. When you go there, you will find the methods to beat Australia. You've done that over the last couple of trips there. You found a way," Gavaskar emphasized.
He further elaborated that the players are concentrating on the game, but it’s the surrounding media and commentary that distract from the present. "It's not the players. The players are focused on the game. It's the circle around which is the media and everybody else talking about Australia. There is so much coverage about what is going to happen in Australia. The Australian players are constantly discussing the Indian team, talking about which players should be included. Nobody is asking us about the Australian team. All the former Australian players are telling us to pick this guy or that guy. Ask us too who should be in the Australian team," Gavaskar pointed out.
Gavaskar’s comments highlight the need for the Indian team to concentrate on their current situation, especially as they look to recover from their recent defeats and regain momentum before the crucial upcoming series against Australia.
