From Rishabh Pant to Mitchell Starc: List of Players with Rs 2 Crore Base Price for IPL 2025 Auction

Rishabh Pant is poised to shatter records at the IPL 2025 auction.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has always been a spectacle, and its upcoming 2025 auction promises to be no different. The scale of its popularity is evident from the sheer number of players who have registered for the mega event. According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), a staggering 1,574 cricketers, including 1,165 Indians, have signed up for the auction, scheduled to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Breakdown of Registered Players

The registered players include 320 capped cricketers, 1,224 uncapped players, and 30 players from Associate Nations. Among them, the capped category boasts 48 Indian players, while the country also has 965 uncapped talents aiming to be picked.

The list of players with the INR 2 crore base price includes several high-profile names:

  • Indian Stars: Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Shami, Khaleel Ahmed, Deepak Chahar, Venkatesh Iyer, Avesh Khan, Ishan Kishan, Mukesh Kumar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, T Natarajan, Devdutt Padikkal, Krunal Pandya, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav
  • International Players: Mitchell Starc, Jofra Archer

Auction Details and Overseas Participation

This year’s auction will feature a total of 409 overseas players. South Africa leads the foreign contingent with 91 players, followed by Australia with 76, and England contributing 52. Other notable countries include New Zealand (39 players), West Indies (33), Afghanistan (29), and Sri Lanka (29).

The Associate Nations also have representation, with players from the USA (10), Netherlands (12), Canada (4), Italy (1), UAE (1), and Scotland (2) registering.

Unique Location and Timing Challenges

For the second consecutive year, the IPL auction will be conducted overseas. Last year, Dubai hosted the event for the 2024 season. This year’s choice of Jeddah continues the trend of expanding IPL’s global footprint. However, the scheduling of the auction coincides with the third and fourth days of the first Test match between India and Australia in Perth, which starts on November 22. This overlap may pose challenges for cricket enthusiasts closely following both events.

Franchises and Spending Potential

The 10 IPL franchises will collectively have a budget of INR 641.5 crore to secure players for 204 available slots. Each team can build a squad comprising a maximum of 25 players, including those retained before the auction.

The Hype Around Big Names

Among the players in the INR 2 crore category, Rishabh Pant stands out as the one expected to dominate the bidding wars. Known for his explosive batting and game-changing abilities, Pant is anticipated to set new benchmarks in the IPL auction history.

Additionally, international superstars like Mitchell Starc and Jofra Archer are expected to draw considerable attention, given their reputations as world-class bowlers.

As the IPL 2025 auction approaches, the excitement continues to build. With a massive pool of talent, a significant budget for franchises, and some of the biggest names in cricket on offer, this year’s auction promises to be a landmark event in the league’s illustrious history. Fans and franchises alike will eagerly await the results, as strategies unfold and teams shape their rosters for the upcoming season.
