Harbhajan Singh Predicts Retentions for Gujarat Titans Ahead of IPL 2024

The Indian Premier League (IPL) gears up for its 2024 Retentions, former cricketer Harbhajan Singh has shared his insights on which players the Gujarat Titans are likely to keep. According to Harbhajan, the franchise is expected to retain star opener Shubman Gill and Afghan all-rounder Rashid Khan as part of their core for the upcoming season.

In the 2024 IPL, Gill had an impressive run, participating in 12 matches where he accumulated 426 runs at a strike rate of 147.40 and an average of 38.73. His performance included a century and two half-centuries, showcasing his crucial role in the batting lineup.

On the other hand, Rashid Khan also played 12 matches, contributing with both bat and ball. He scored 102 runs at a strike rate of 143.66 and took 10 wickets with an economy rate of 8.40, further solidifying his status as one of the league’s premier all-rounders.

Speaking to Star Sports, Harbhajan discussed the Titans' strategy for the upcoming auction, suggesting that while they have six potential players for retention, the franchise is likely to keep two or three key players. He elaborated, “When I look at their team, I think Shubman Gill will be retained. Rashid Khan will be retained. Mohd Shami should be retained. If I understand correctly, the fourth player will be Miller. I don’t know if Tewatia will be retained. I think they will retain four players. They will leave two players and try to make a team from the pool.”

Despite a strong start to the franchise's IPL journey, the Titans faced challenges in the 2024 season, finishing eighth in the standings and failing to qualify for the playoffs. They ended the season with five wins and seven defeats, accumulating a total of 12 points and finishing with a net run rate of -1.063.

As the Gujarat Titans prepare for the mega auction, the focus will be on strategically building a competitive team while retaining their most valuable players.
