Imran Khwaja Reappointed as ICC Deputy Chair
At the ICC's annual general meeting held in Colombo in July, Khwaja was re-elected as one of three Associate member directors on the ICC Board.
Imran Khwaja will continue his role as deputy chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC) following his reappointment for another term. His new stint is set to commence on December 1, 2024, coinciding with the beginning of Jay Shah's tenure as ICC chair.
Khwaja, who has been part of the ICC Board since 2008, has served as deputy chair since 2017. During his tenure, he has also acted as interim chair, stepping in after Shashank Manohar's term concluded in July 2020. Khwaja contested the subsequent leadership election later that year against Greg Barclay, who ultimately secured the position after two rounds of voting.

Jay Shah, the current BCCI secretary, was appointed chairperson in August without opposition, taking over from Barclay, who completed two out of his three terms in the role. At 35 years old, Shah is the youngest person to lead the ICC and the fifth Indian to do so, following the footsteps of cricketing stalwarts like Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Manohar.
Additionally, the ICC has voted on a significant change regarding the tenure limits for its chair and board directors. The new regulations will adjust the maximum tenure from three terms of two years each to two terms of three years each.
