His appreciation for challenging conditions has been evident since the early days of his career.
In a promotional interview with Star Sports, Rahane expressed his affinity for difficult playing conditions, saying, "I always loved challenges where the ball moves, seams, or bounces." His formative experiences at the Wankhede Stadium, particularly on the older pitch with its lively bounce, helped him develop resilience against tough bowling conditions. "Since my days in U14, I played cricket at the old Wankhede, where the wickets were good and had a solid bounce," he reminisced.
These early experiences equipped Rahane with the mental fortitude to excel under pressure, often stepping up for his team when they need him the most. Since making his international debut in 2011, he has accumulated a total of 8,414 runs across formats, with 195 matches and 251 innings at an average of 35.95, including 15 centuries and 51 fifties. His highest score in international cricket is 188.
In terms of format-specific achievements, Rahane has made significant contributions in Tests, scoring 5,077 runs at an average of 38.46. In ODIs, he has amassed 2,962 runs in 90 matches at an average of 35.26, with a personal best of 111. Although he has played only 20 T20Is, his contributions include 375 runs at an average of 20.83, featuring one half-century.
Rahane last represented India in a Test match against the West Indies in July of the previous year, but his experience and track record position him as a key figure in Indian cricket. As he continues to navigate the challenges of professional cricket, his passion for overcoming obstacles remains a defining trait of his career.
