Jannik Sinner Faces Tough Challenge at Rolex Paris Masters
With a season record of 65 wins and six losses, Sinner is focused on improving his performance in Paris this year. He stated, “I’m looking forward to it. I’m focused on myself, and hopefully I can raise the level from the last two years I came here, which I have struggled a little bit on this court.”
Jannik Sinner is gearing up for a challenging start at the upcoming Rolex Paris Masters, where he is set to face either Ben Shelton or Felix Auger-Aliassime in the opening round. As the top seed in the PIF ATP Rankings, Sinner understands that his return game will be crucial against either of these big servers.
In a pre-tournament press conference, Sinner acknowledged the difficulty of his draw, stating, “It is a very tough draw, especially here on these courts. Big servers are very tough. But we go day by day. The draw can open up sometimes, or you never know what's coming.” He noted that facing Shelton, ranked No. 23, or Auger-Aliassime, ranked No. 19, will require him to quickly adapt, especially since he has yet to win against Auger-Aliassime in two previous encounters.
Sinner has had mixed experiences at the Paris-Bercy event. He has only won one match in his three appearances, with his debut in 2021 ending in a first-round loss to Carlos Alcaraz. In 2022, he exited in the opening round again, this time to Marc-Andrea Huesler. However, last year marked his first victory at the tournament against Mackenzie McDonald, although he withdrew before his next match against Alex de Minaur.

As the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin approach, Sinner is looking to end his remarkable 2024 season on a high note. With an unblemished 5-0 record on hard courts this year, he is eager to capitalize on this momentum in an event known for its surprising champions. Sinner concluded, “It has been a long season, but always when you arrive at the end, everything can happen. Some players are a bit fresher; some are a bit more tired. I’m personally happy to be back here. It has been a tournament where I couldn't yet find my best tennis until now. But let’s see what I can do this year.”
