Jasprit Bumrah Reacts to Being Mumbai Indians' Costliest IPL Retention: 'No Better Feeling'
Bumrah emphasized that he no longer views his overs as just a means to an end, but rather as a responsibility to contribute to his team's success. He stated, "The winning mentality is always there because you're playing sport to win. If you are just there to participate, it doesn't really land up well. So for me, I have a lot of belief in my ability."
Jasprit Bumrah, the premier Indian pacer, expressed his elation after being retained by Mumbai Indians as the top pick for IPL 2025, surpassing teammates Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav. For Bumrah, the responsibility that comes with being the leading retention reflects his journey with the franchise, which began when he joined as a 19-year-old. Now at 30, he feels a sense of duty to nurture the next generation of talent within the team.
Reflecting on his time with the Mumbai Indians, Bumrah said, "It feels good. I came here as a 19-year-old teenager and now I'm going to turn 31. I have a son, so it's been a complete journey. I'm happy that the journey is continuing and yeah, no better feeling." He acknowledged the influence of senior players like Lasith Malinga, from whom he learned many valuable lessons, especially during crucial death overs.

The Mumbai Indians have a storied history in the IPL, winning the championship five times, a feat matched only by Chennai Super Kings. Bumrah noted, "We have been successful in the past and we know how to win championships. It feels good to know that the crowd is behind you, that experience of playing in Wankhede is always great, that energy, that vibe is a sight to see."
Alongside Bumrah, Mumbai Indians retained Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, and Tilak Varma for the upcoming season. Pandya is set to continue as captain, following a challenging year where he faced criticism from fans after replacing Sharma. The pressure is on as Mumbai Indians aim to reclaim their status as one of the league's top teams in IPL 2025.
