Jesse Lingard Praised as a 'True Korean' by FC Seoul Head Coach Amid Success in K-League
Lingard has made an impressive comeback, becoming an integral part of the FC Seoul lineup. With 23 appearances, multiple goals, and two assists, he played a pivotal role in helping his team secure a fifth-place league finish and a spot in the playoffs.
FC Seoul manager Kim Gi-dong has praised former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard, calling him a "true Korean" for his commitment and adaptability since joining the K-League side. Lingard, who left Nottingham Forest in June 2023, joined FC Seoul this February and initially struggled with cultural and professional adjustments. Adding to his challenges, he sustained a knee injury soon after his arrival, which required surgery.
Since then, Lingard has made an impressive comeback, becoming an integral part of the FC Seoul lineup. With 23 appearances, multiple goals, and two assists, he played a pivotal role in helping his team secure a fifth-place league finish and a spot in the playoffs.
Reflecting on Lingard’s journey, Kim Gi-dong remarked, “Isn’t Lingard a superstar? When he was at Manchester United, he was accustomed to a different level of luxury.” Despite these differences, Kim admired Lingard’s commitment, saying, “He quietly played his role and has become an indispensable leader within the team. He has become a true Korean.”
Lingard will return to action on November 10, as FC Seoul faces reigning champions Ulsan in the playoffs, where his leadership and skill will be key for his team’s success.
