Kane Williamson to Miss Third Test in India for Recovery Ahead of England Series
With the first Test against England still a month away, this cautious approach aims to ensure Williamson is fully fit for the challenging series. New Zealand's third Test against India begins this Friday, but the absence of their captain has not hindered the team's performance.
Kane Williamson will not travel to India for the third and final Test match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Instead, he will focus on recovering from his groin injury to ensure he is fit for New Zealand’s upcoming three-Test series against England, which begins on November 28. This decision reflects a cautious approach by the New Zealand team management, prioritizing his full recovery over participation in the ongoing series against India.
Williamson sustained the groin injury during New Zealand's recent Test series against Sri Lanka. Although head coach Gary Stead noted that Williamson has shown good signs of recovery, he emphasized that it is best for the captain to continue his rehabilitation in New Zealand. “Kane continues to show good signs, but isn’t quite ready to jump on a plane and join us,” Stead stated. “While things are looking promising, we think the best course of action is for him to stay in New Zealand and focus on the final part of his rehabilitation so he’ll be good to go for England.”

Historic Series Win for New Zealand
Despite Williamson's absence, New Zealand has made headlines by winning their first-ever Test series in India. Under the leadership of Tom Latham, the team achieved a remarkable feat by defeating India in their own backyard, marking the first series loss for India at home in 12 years and ending a remarkable streak of 18 consecutive home series wins.
New Zealand secured the first Test victory by 8 wickets, with the bowling unit, particularly pacers Matt Henry and Will O'Rourke, dominating India and restricting them to just 46 runs in their first innings—their lowest home total ever. The team's strong start gave them a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
The second Test victory was even more impressive, as New Zealand claimed a 113-run win in Pune, a venue typically favorable for Indian spinners. Mitchell Santner, who is not often featured in the Test squad, shone with match figures of 13 for 157, the second-best performance by a visiting bowler in India. His exceptional bowling performance played a crucial role in securing New Zealand's historic 2-0 lead in the series.
As New Zealand prepares for their third Test against India, the focus will shift to maintaining their momentum without their star captain, while they also look forward to the challenges posed by the England series on the horizon.
