This was done in light of security issues from the Ram Navami celebrations in Kolkata, which demand the deployment of huge contingents of policemen from all over the city. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and Kolkata Police petitioned the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reschedule the match on grounds that they could not ensure security during the match on the initially proposed date. The BCCI acquiesced in this request, and the IPL 2025 schedule other than this remains normal.
The rescheduling impacts the match calendar, making April 8 a doubleheader day. The match between KKR and LSG will be held in the afternoon at 3:30 PM in Kolkata, and then Punjab Kings will take on Chennai Super Kings in Chandigarh at 7:30 PM. Previously, April 6 would have had two matches, including the KKR vs LSG match as an afternoon affair. Under the revised schedule, only the Gujarat Titans vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match will be played on April 6 at 7:30 PM at Hyderabad.
