With each and every day, the preparation for the IPL 2025 is picking up pace, but there has been one team that has overwhelmed the media in both the masses and the expert audience as well: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). LSG captain Zaheer Khan, in a public declaration, asserted that LSG is one of the favorites to win the most-desired IPL title this year. Khan was all confidence after BCCI declared the entire IPL 2025 schedule. The belief of the coach in the team is a result of a combination of good management, a well-balanced team, and knowing what they need to do when the last game arrives so that they can win the trophy.
The IPL 2025 season kicks off with a highly anticipated match between LSG and Delhi Capitals on March 24 at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The game is particularly notable because Delhi’s Rishabh Pant will face off against his former team as the captain of LSG. Pant, who was acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for a record-breaking INR 27 crore at last year’s mega auction, is eager to lead the team to new heights.
LSG has been incredibly promising the last two years, playing wonderful cricket for the 2022 and 2023 seasons of the IPL. Although it made it to the playoffs for both the seasons, the team lost in the Eliminator. Even the 2024 season did not go that far, LSG being seventh on the points table. It needs to pick up things this year and fulfill its potential.
With captain Zaheer Khan, LSG has brawn and title ambitions. With tricky skipper Rishabh Pant, it has star-studded, experience-driven squads with David Miller, Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, and Nicholas Pooran. The team is experienced and young with rebel guns like Ayush Badoni and Mayank Yadav to seal off games when the time calls for it.

The 2025 IPL home games season of LSJ will start at Bharat Ratna Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. These are followed by two home night matches beginning with the match against Punjab Kings on April 1 and that against Mumbai Indians on April 4. These are among the premium home matches like matches against Gujarat Titans on April 12, Chennai Super Kings on April 14, and Delhi Capitals on April 22. LSG will play Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 9 and Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 18, and those too will be crucial matches in the fight to reach the top four of the points table.
The IPL format still continues to be the same as both teams have 14 matches in the league stage. The top four qualify for the playoffs as Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and the final. Hyderabad and Kolkata will stage the qualifier playoff matches with the final on May 25 at the iconic Eden Gardens.
LSG support staff is also skilled enough to lead the team to a win. Support staff is being guided by head coach Justin Langer, a veteran international cricket great and having enough experience and depth of plans to transition onto the team. Assistant coaches Vijay Dahiya and Lance Klusener add more experience and stability to support staff.
LSG IPL 2025 squad is a firecracker combination of power hitters, bowlers, and all-rounders. Apart from Pant, Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and David Miller will be the backbone to providing solidity and match-winning moments in the game of the season. Young guns Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, and Akash Deep will be the backbone, particularly with bowling. With the addition of Nicholas Pooran and Shamar Joseph to the team, they become a more dangerous team because they now have one of the league leaders.
