A Promising Start for Fulham

Fulham currently sit just three points away from the European spots, a position some might find surprising. Silva, however, views it as a reflection of his team’s strong performances.

“I wouldn’t say I’m surprised,” Silva said. “At the start of the season, I didn’t necessarily expect us to be in this position, especially after losing several players and undergoing significant changes in the squad. But the way we’ve been playing speaks volumes.

“Our performances have been consistently good. In many games, we’ve been among the best teams on the pitch, fully deserving the points we’ve earned—if not more. The players who joined us this season have settled quickly, and their impact has helped us maintain this strong start.”

Assessing Arsenal’s Threats

Looking ahead to Sunday’s clash, Silva acknowledges the significant challenge Arsenal poses.

“Arsenal are a top side and title contenders in my opinion,” he said. “They’ve been among the league’s elite for the past couple of seasons. Mikel Arteta has done a fantastic job with them, creating a team with a clear collective identity and tremendous individual quality.

“They’re also incredibly solid and physical, from Martin Ødegaard to their attacking players. It’s not easy to find openings against them, as they rarely allow opponents many chances. That said, we’re preparing ourselves to fight for the three points.”

Tight Turnaround Poses Challenges

Silva highlighted the short preparation time for Fulham compared to Arsenal, noting the difference in their midweek schedules.

“Arsenal played on Wednesday, while we had a tough match against Brighton on Thursday. A 24-hour gap might not sound like much, but it makes a big difference, especially with such little time to recover and prepare.

“However, that’s no excuse. We faced similar challenges last season and still managed to compete well against Arsenal. We’ll go into this match with the belief that we can do so again.”

Alex Iwobi’s Impact and Emile Smith Rowe’s Resurgence

Fulham’s midfield has been bolstered by the form of Alex Iwobi, whose performances have caught Silva’s eye. The Nigerian international has grown into a pivotal role at the club, adding dynamism and creativity to the team’s play.
