Pakistan’s fast bowler Mir Hamza has been released from the national Test squad to undergo rehabilitation in Karachi, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on the opening day of the third and final Test between Pakistan and England in Rawalpindi. The 32-year-old left-arm pacer has been dealing with a niggling injury in his right glute, which prevented him from participating in practice or bowling in any sessions leading up to the final Test. He was observed working with the team physiotherapist on band rehabilitation exercises.
Hamza was initially included in Pakistan's squad for the Test series against England, covering the first and last two Tests, but he has not made it into the playing XI. His last appearance for Pakistan was in the second Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. Over his Test career, Hamza has taken 12 wickets across 12 innings, with an average of 42.08.
For the third Test, Pakistan opted to rely on their spin attack, fielding three specialist spinners and only one pacer, Aamir Jamal, whose batting abilities ultimately gave him an edge over Hamza in the final selection. Hamza’s injury further excluded him from contention for the decisive Test, as the team tailored the lineup to suit spin-friendly conditions.
Hamza’s rehabilitation in Karachi is expected to facilitate a swift recovery, potentially enabling him to return to full fitness ahead of future selections.
