MS Dhoni's IPL 2025 Career Ruffles, Controversy Ensues

The 2025 season of IPL kicked off with plenty of questions surrounding MS Dhoni and where he stood in the team Chennai Super Kings. During the game against Delhi Capitals recently, Dhoni played for 26 balls and scored merely 30 runs. It has raised eyebrows over whether or not he is still able to win the team matches. Dhoni is considered the best finisher in cricket history but his recent performance has not helped CSK win a single match of this season. There are many fans and pundits asking now if he should retire from the game or not.

Former India batsman Manoj Tiwary presented a strong view about Dhoni. He said that Dhoni must have retired after the 2023 IPL season. Tiwary believes that it was the best time for him to leave with pride. As per him Dhoni earned utmost respect all these years but now the fans are not seeing him play in the same way. The captain of Chennai Super Kings Stephen Fleming also added his comments. According to him, Dhoni is unable to bat for more than 8 to 10 overs because of a knee issue. But Tiwary did not agree with this explanation. He said Dhoni still has no trouble keeping wickets for 20 overs without any problem. He squats behind the stumps and runs around quickly to catch and perform run outs. So it is hard to understand that his knee hurts only when he needs to bat more. Tiwary believes the majority of the decisions are being made to protect Dhoni but those decisions are not helping the team.

Having Dhoni in the team is a dominating figure and the fans continue to follow him with the entire passion. But his sub-standard scores with the bat now dictate the performance of the team. The CSK management and the public wish the team to play well in IPL 2025 and for this the team needs players who can score quickly and seal the match. If Dhoni is no longer able to do that then it is difficult to justify his place in the playing eleven. Many people think that Dhoni may announce his retirement during this IPL season and this could be his final time playing in the league.
