Mumbai Indians Target Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar in IPL 2025 Auction
Former India cricketer and analyst Aakash Chopra has suggested that MI could target experienced Indian spinners in the auction. He particularly highlighted two players: Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar. Chahal, who was unexpectedly released by Rajasthan Royals (RR), is the IPL's highest wicket-taker, with over 200 wickets.
Mumbai Indians (MI), one of the most successful franchises in IPL history, are gearing up for the IPL 2025 mega auction with a modest budget of Rs 45 crore. Despite retaining their core players—Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rohit Sharma—MI faces the challenge of filling out their squad, particularly with Indian players.
His consistent performance, picking 18 or more wickets in each of the last six seasons, makes him a valuable addition to MI's bowling lineup. Sundar, who was let go by Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been in impressive form for India in T20Is and Test cricket, and Chopra believes he could fetch a high price.
Chopra also speculated that MI might target a wicketkeeper-batter like Ishan Kishan, though he feels Kishan might be beyond their budget. Instead, he suggested that they could look at alternatives like Quinton de Kock, Jitesh Sharma, or Phil Salt, with Jitesh being an Indian option.
The IPL 2025 mega auction will take place in Jeddah on November 24 and 25, where MI will look to strengthen their squad with these key additions.
