Mushfiqur Rahim Out of Afghanistan ODI Series with Finger Fracture
Rahim batted lower down the order in the first ODI, coming in at No. 7, as Bangladesh suffered a dramatic collapse, losing their last eight wickets for just 23 runs. He was dismissed for 1 off three balls after being stumped.
Mushfiqur Rahim will miss the remainder of Bangladesh’s ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE after sustaining a finger injury during the series opener, which Bangladesh lost by 92 runs. The injury occurred while Rahim was keeping wickets towards the end of Afghanistan's batting innings.
Team physiotherapist Delowar Hossain confirmed that an X-ray revealed a fracture on Rahim's left index finger near the DIP joint. As a result, he will not feature in the second and third ODIs of the series. Rahim is undergoing conservative treatment, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will provide further updates on his recovery in due course.
Despite the injury, Rahim batted lower down the order in the first ODI, coming in at No. 7, as Bangladesh suffered a dramatic collapse, losing their last eight wickets for just 23 runs. He was dismissed for 1 off three balls after being stumped.
With the series now at 0-1 in Afghanistan's favour, Bangladesh have not named a replacement for Rahim, and with Litton Das also absent due to illness, Jaker Ali is expected to take over wicketkeeping duties.
Rahim's injury also casts doubt on his availability for Bangladesh's upcoming tour of the West Indies. The team is set to travel to the Caribbean later this month for a mult-format tour, which includes two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is. Rahim, who retired from T20I cricket in 2022, could still play a key role in the Test and ODI series, but his recovery from the finger injury will determine whether he is fit for selection.
The Bangladesh team will head to the West Indies for a warm-up game in Coolidge starting on November 15, followed by the first Test in North Sound on November 22. The squad for the West Indies tour has yet to be announced.
