Adelaide Strikers claimed their first victory of the WBBL season, defeating Sydney Sixers by 11 runs in a match marked by Bridget Patterson’s stellar performance and a brief injury scare. Patterson led the Strikers’ batting with a quick 44 off 32 balls, including six fours and a six. Coming in at 22/3 after a strong start by Sixers’ bowler Lauren Cheatle, who took two early wickets, Patterson partnered with Orla Prendergast for a 54-run stand. Amanda-Jade Wellington then added a fiery 40 off 16 balls, guiding Strikers to a challenging 171 despite Ashleigh Gardner’s four-wicket haul for the Sixers.

In reply, the Sixers began well, with Ellyse Perry scoring a rapid 54 off 28 balls. However, her dismissal by Brown shifted momentum back to the Strikers. Sarah Bryce provided resistance with a 62 off 44, but after she was bowled by Megan Schutt in the 17th over, the Sixers collapsed, losing five wickets for just 18 runs. Anesu Mushangwe was instrumental, claiming 3 for 27, while Wellington added two crucial wickets to seal the win.
This victory brings the Strikers’ first points on the board after their opening match loss.
