In a bid to reinvigorate its esports foundation, PUBG Mobile is channeling $10 million into grassroots-level initiatives. While the game enjoys a massive esports following, grassroots events have historically been underemphasized, contributing to a decline in viewership. Meanwhile, rival MOBA titles like Honor of Kings and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang have continued to soar in popularity.
James Yang, Senior Director of Global Esports at Level Infinite, emphasized the significance of this investment. The funds will support prize pools, third-party tournaments, female-focused events, and other initiatives to nurture amateur talent. Inspired by the recent success of the Ultimate Royale ranked mode, which brought amateur players into the competitive spotlight, PUBG Mobile is poised to expand its efforts.
The 2025 roadmap includes over 20 regional tournaments spanning Southeast Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Central and South Asia, and the Americas. Aspiring players from these regions will compete for coveted spots in higher-tier competitions like the PUBG Mobile Super League (PMSL) and the PUBG Mobile Global Open (PMGO).
PMGO Returns and PMGC 2025 Heads to Thailand
The PUBG Mobile Global Open (PMGO) has established itself as a critical stepping stone for amateur players entering the competitive scene. Following its debut success, the 2025 PMGO will be held in Uzbekistan. Notably, players ranked in the top 500 in the Ultimate Royale mode will gain direct entry into the second round of qualifiers, ensuring grassroots talent has a direct pathway to professional competition.
The 2025 PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) grand finale will take place in Thailand, adding to the anticipation surrounding the tournament. The championship is set to run for several weeks, providing players and fans with an extended period of intense competition and entertainment.
Enhanced Gameplay and New Modes
Apart from refining its esports ecosystem, PUBG Mobile is committed to enriching the gameplay experience.
