Released by CSK Ahead of IPL 2025 Auction, India Star Deepak Chahar Sends Clear Message to Franchise

Indian pacer Deepak Chahar, who has been an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) over the years, has expressed confidence that his former franchise may once again place a high bid for him in the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. Chahar, who has made a name for himself with his ability to pick up wickets during the powerplay, was not retained by CSK this year but believes his skill set will attract significant interest. CSK had previously acquired him for INR 14 crore in the 2022 auction after choosing not to retain him, showing their high regard for his abilities.

Chahar's prowess in restricting runs early on in the game makes him a valuable asset, especially in today’s high-scoring T20 format. "Around 90-100 runs are being scored in the powerplay, and that’s why teams are crossing 200 more frequently. I have proven how valuable I can be in limiting runs in that phase," Chahar said in an interview with the Times of India. Despite battling injuries in recent seasons, Chahar’s record in the powerplay overs remains impressive, and he is hopeful that CSK will once again recognize his contributions and bid for him.

Ahead of the auction, CSK retained several key players, including captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Shivam Dube, and Matheesha Pathirana. However, with no Right to Match (RTM) card available to CSK, they won’t be able to secure Chahar automatically, so they’ll need to outbid any other teams interested in the pacer. Chahar also expressed his willingness to join Rajasthan Royals if CSK doesn’t acquire him, saying, "I would like to don the yellow jersey again, and if not that, then I would want Rajasthan Royals to bid for me."

With the IPL 2025 auction just days away, Chahar's statement is a clear message to franchises about his desire to contribute to CSK again, but it also opens up an exciting opportunity for other teams. His ability to swing the new ball and strike in the powerplay could make him a valuable addition for any squad aiming to strengthen their bowling attack in the critical early overs.
