Rohit Sharma Reportedly Voices Concerns About Sunil Gavaskar's Criticism to BCCI
Rohit Sharma reportedly expresses his concerns to the BCCI regarding Sunil Gavaskar's criticism of the team's performance and management. This internal matter adds a new layer of tension as the Indian cricket community watches the growing dynamics between players and legends.

Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has filed a complaint against the legendary former batter and commentator Sunil Gavaskar with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), according to a report on CricBlogger. Rohit Sharma was reportedly not amused by the negative comments from Gavaskar about his recent form in India-Australia series. According to the report, Rohit was uncomfortable with the way the veteran commentator spoke over his performances.
Rohit Sharma is having a string of bad games, especially during the Test series against Australia. During the three-match series, Rohit mustered only 31 runs in the three matches and chose to pull himself out for the final Test match in Sydney. This form dip caught the attention of many cricket experts, including Sunil Gavaskar, who took to his column in the Sydney Morning Herald to express his views. Gavaskar said that Rohit might even resign from the captaincy if he did not get runs in the Melbourne and Sydney Tests, and he would not wait for the selectors to make that call.
These comments were reportedly not taken well by Rohit, who felt that such criticism was unwarranted, especially when he was already under pressure from the outside world about his form. According to the source close to the matter, Rohit felt that the criticism from Gavaskar was too harsh and uncalled for. This dissatisfaction made him approach the BCCI and express his feelings about the manner in which his performances were being discussed in public by the commentator.
Rohit Sharma is also under pressure due to the off-field controversy while facing the pressures of domestic cricket. Along with fellow Indian team members Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer, Rohit will miss Mumbai’s crucial Ranji Trophy match against Meghalaya. Currently, Ajinkya Rahane leads a third-positioned team, which includes Jammu and Kashmir and Baroda. It suffered an earlier setback as J&K took their away win tally against them with their current defeat in a row against that rival.
Rohit, Jaiswal, and Iyer would be kept engaged in the preparations for the ODI series against England, to be played on February 6 at Nagpur. That will only be a few days after the last round of Ranji Trophy ends. It's a series of England that has come after the successive Test series defeat by India to New Zealand and Australia. The defeats have denied India third successive year in the World Test Championship final. This was one reason behind India's poor performances in those series; their batting unit failed to get on track, an issue that mounted pressure on the likes of Rohit Sharma.
While Rohit's form in Test cricket has been a cause for concern, it would be pertinent to mention that his recent domestic outings for Mumbai have also made the eyebrows rise. In his return to the domestic circuit, Rohit could manage only 3 and 28 in the Ranji Trophy against Jammu and Kashmir and continued from where he had left. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who also made a Test debut for India, has had a better domestic season, with a century and two fifty in Australia. Going into the Tests Jaiswal went well for India scoring four half-tons at home, but in domestic cricket he has been relatively unimpressive in recent times.
However, Shreyas Iyer has done exceedingly well for Mumbai in this Ranji season. He has scored 480 runs in just seven innings, having crossed the average of 68.57 with two hundreds to his name. Not only this, Iyer had also performed excellently in the white-ball cricket scenario as he had two unbeaten hundreds in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and did well for Mumbai side by scoring 345 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at a strike rate of 188.52.
Even though the pressure is mounting, his leadership and batting skills continue to face intense scrutiny as he looks forward to rising over the recent slump. His evident discomfort at the eventual criticism from someone so respected as Sunil Gavaskar when it came from within adds another layer to the ongoing narrative of his form and leadership heading towards more important series for India.
All these issues of form, pressure of leadership, and the persistent problems with India's Test batting line-up have hit the headlines. If the BCCI does anything or responds to the same, only time will tell, but this scenario has led to a much larger discussion on the balance between the performance of players, criticism by the media, and the role of commentators in building the story around the player.
