Shakib Al Hasan Reported for Suspect Bowling Action During County Championship
Despite the issue, Shakib is not suspended from playing but must undergo tests on his bowling action in an approved facility within the next few weeks.
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been reported for a suspect bowling action following his one-off appearance for Surrey in the 2024 County Championship. Shakib, who picked up nine wickets in a thrilling match against Somerset in September, was asked to undergo further analysis of his bowling action after the umpires, Steve O'Shaughnessy and David Millns, raised concerns during the game.
Shakib bowled more than 63 overs in the match, showcasing his skill and helping Surrey in a hard-fought contest. However, it was his first appearance in the County Championship since a brief stint with Worcestershire back in 2010-11. This time, Shakib was playing for Surrey on a short-term basis to cover for eight players absent on England duty.
The report has come as a surprise to Shakib, whose bowling action has never been questioned in his extensive 17-year international career, during which he has taken over 700 wickets. Despite the issue, Shakib is not suspended from playing but must undergo tests on his bowling action in an approved facility within the next few weeks.
The situation is under the jurisdiction of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and does not involve the International Cricket Council (ICC) or other cricket boards, including the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). A BCB official clarified that this matter is isolated to Shakib's participation in domestic cricket in England, and if he wishes to continue playing there, he must complete the required tests.
Shakib was notably absent from Bangladesh’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, citing the need for additional recovery time after being unable to play his farewell Test match against South Africa earlier this year.
