Shan Masood Responds to Controversial Questions from Ramiz Raja
Masood has now addressed the situation publicly, clarifying that he holds no ill feelings. He mentioned that he approaches criticism constructively, while also knowing when to ignore unnecessary negativity.
Following Pakistan’s impressive 2-1 Test series comeback against England, a post-match interview between Ramiz Raja and Pakistani skipper Shan Masood stirred up controversy. During the interview, Ramiz asked Masood some critical questions, including one about Pakistan’s struggle with seaming conditions and their previous losses. This line of questioning led to strong reactions on social media, with fans expressing their disapproval. Even Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir voiced his frustration, which eventually prompted Ramiz to issue a clarification.
After the series opener against England ended in a defeat for Pakistan, the hosts rallied to win the next two matches, clinching the series 2-1. During the post-match conversation, Ramiz pressed Masood on the team's performance, asking, “There are two things that you will see. One is how to play on seaming conditions, and the other thing is if it is a one-off. How did you achieve this, six losses in a row?” While the question seemed to highlight Pakistan’s recent struggles, Masood maintained his composure, responding with optimism: “Ramiz bhai, we needed this win. The nation needed this win, and I am really happy for Pakistan.”
Masood has now addressed the situation publicly, clarifying that he holds no ill feelings. He mentioned that he approaches criticism constructively, while also knowing when to ignore unnecessary negativity. "There are no hard feelings from my side. I've always been open in front of the media and tried to conduct myself in the best way possible," Masood said during an interview with BBC Stumped. He emphasized the importance of staying true to his character, adding, “I'm good at taking constructive criticism and I'm also good at filtering stuff out.”
In addition to addressing his own experience, Masood spoke about teammate Babar Azam, who was excluded from the second and third Tests against England. Masood expressed hope that this break would allow Babar to recharge and prepare for Pakistan’s upcoming white-ball series against Australia.
Masood’s measured response has helped diffuse some of the tension surrounding the interview, reinforcing his focus on representing Pakistan with integrity.
