"Sorry To Disappoint": RCB Drops Captaincy Hints for Virat Kohli Ahead of IPL 2025 Auction

Speculation surrounding Virat Kohli's potential return as captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) gained traction with the release of skipper Faf du Plessis ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. As the cricketing community anticipated the announcement of retention lists, many believed Kohli might reclaim leadership responsibilities for the franchise.

The chatter escalated when RCB omitted Du Plessis from their retention list, fueling fans' hopes of Kohli resuming his captaincy role. We have not made any decision related to captaincy or on that (Kohli returning as skipper) as yet. We are open to options. The only obvious decision we made was not to retain Faf. He did a great job last year and the year before that. So from our perspective, we will keep a very open mind when we head to the auction."

Rumors suggest that Kohli is interested in resuming the captaincy, although there is no official confirmation on the matter. Following the retention announcements, RCB coach Andy Flower discussed the rationale behind retaining players like Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal for the upcoming season.
