SRH Retains Travis Head and Nitish Reddy to Finalize Five Key Players
Klaasen and Cummins, who will continue as the team's captain, were retained for INR 23 crore and INR 18 crore, respectively, while Sharma was also retained at INR 14 crore. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Nitish Kumar Reddy, an emerging all-rounder from Andhra Pradesh who recently debuted for India, secured his spot with SRH at INR 6 crore.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have confirmed the retention of Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy for the upcoming IPL season, joining Pat Cummins, Heinrich Klaasen, and Abhishek Sharma in the core roster. This group helped SRH achieve a successful season last year, securing a second-place finish behind Kolkata Knight Riders.
The franchise, owned by the Marans of Chennai, has invested INR 75 crore across these five players, according to sources within the BCCI. Travis Head, who had a stellar season as an opener with 567 runs at a striking rate of 191.5, was retained for INR 14 crore—a notable increase from last season’s INR 6.8 crore. Head’s partnership with Abhishek Sharma was critical to SRH’s campaign, combining for 599 runs across 13 innings.
The BCCI’s capped player retention guidelines allowed SRH to retain these five players, deducting INR 75 crore from their purse. Reddy, who has been likened to Hardik Pandya, is also set to play in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
With their retention finalized, SRH has INR 45 crore left to complete their roster over the next three seasons. They also retain one Right to Match (RTM) option to secure an uncapped player, giving them flexibility to round out a competitive squad.
