SRH vs PBKS-Abhishek Sharma's 141 Propels Historic Chase in SRH's 8-Wicket Victory

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered the record run chase in IPL history as they hammered Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 8 wickets in a run-feast at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Match 27 of IPL 2025. It was a night for one man — Abhishek Sharma, who lit up the night with a stunning 141 from 55 balls, shattering several IPL records in the process.

Pursuing a daunting 246, SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma came out with aggressive intent. They hammered a 50-run opening partnership in only 3 overs, SRH's quickest this season. The pair was merciless, taking the powerplay to 83/0. Abhishek completed his half-century in only 16 balls, the quickest by a SRH batsman, while Head smashed his way to 66 off 37, with two massive sixes off Glenn Maxwell.

Their 171-run opening partnership became the IPL 2025 highest partnership when Head was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal. But Abhishek had just begun.

Abhishek Sharma's innings was a masterclass. He made his first IPL century in 40 balls, the quickest ever in Hyderabad and against PBKS. He didn't rest on his laurels — with 14 fours and 10 sixes, he went on to score 141 off 55 balls, shattering KL Rahul's record for the highest IPL score by an Indian.

SRH finished the chase with 9 balls remaining, logging the highest successful run chase in IPL history. Not surprisingly, Abhishek was awarded Player of the Match for one of the most memorable knocks the league has witnessed.

Earlier, PBKS chose to bat and blazed away with Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya in the lead. They reached 50+ runs in 3 overs, their quickest opening partnership this season. Arya hit 36 off 13 before getting out to Harshal Patel, who had the SRH bowling in his control with 4/42.

Captain Shreyas Iyer played a pearl, making 82 off 36, as debutant Eshan Malinga picked the very first over. Marcus Stoinis provided a late blast (34* off 11) to ensure PBKS were left on an enormous 245/6.

From Stoinis' fireworks to Abhishek's record-breaking knock, this game had everything. But ultimately, it was SRH — and specifically Abhishek Sharma — who stole the show with one of the greatest run chases in T20 history.
