Students from Pegasus Primary School in Oxford experienced an unforgettable day when they were surprised with a trip to meet their local football team, Oxford United. The excitement was palpable as the Year 6 pupils arrived at the team's training ground, where they were invited to participate in the club's annual team photo, sign autographs, and enjoy a kickabout with the players.

The event was just as surprising for the teachers, as Laura Deacon, one of the Year 6 teachers, revealed that she was also kept in the dark about the plans. She noted the students' excitement was "just a jot down from before Christmas," highlighting how much they were looking forward to the day. "They are beyond excited," she said, mentioning that many in the community are dedicated Oxford United fans. Deacon joked that her own children would think she was "very cool" for being part of the event.
Head coach Des Buckingham described the surprise as "a nice event," emphasizing the importance of connecting with the local community and schools. "To be able to involve the local community and the local schools... it's a real nice touch trying to connect us a little bit more with our community," he said. Buckingham noted that a football club represents the area it comes from, making this engagement particularly meaningful for Oxford.
The day was a resounding success, leaving students buzzing with joy and deepening their connection to their local team.
