Sunrisers Hyderabad Struggle Continues as Vettori Demands Better Performance
Sunrisers Hyderabad has a difficult season in IPL 2025. There is an appeal from coach Daniel Vettori for improved team performance as the team seek to revive their season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad's head coach Daniel Vettori was frustrated after his side lost yet another match in the IPL. They lost to Mumbai Indians, which was their sixth loss this season. Vettori admitted that the team's aggressive approach in the powerplay backfired terribly, and they lost wickets too soon. Sunrisers Hyderabad were in trouble right from the beginning, losing four wickets in only the first five overs. Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult's brilliant new-ball bowling placed Sunrisers on the backfoot immediately.
Vettori conceded that the toss greatly contributed to the outcome of the game. The conditions of the pitch for the match differed from the conditions the team had faced so far in the season. He stated that Sunrisers were anticipating a high-scoring wicket, one which would yield 250 and more runs. But when they understood that the wicket was not playing in their favor, it became too late to make any changes. The team tried to be too aggressive during the powerplay, resulting in wickets tumbling one after the other, till they were left at only 24 for 4 in the sixth over.
In retrospect, Vettori said that the side should have adjusted sooner to the varying conditions and worked on compiling a smaller total. When the early wickets tumbled, the batting plans of Sunrisers collapsed. By the time they managed to change their approach, they were already in trouble, losing five wickets by the ninth over. Regardless of that, Vettori saw some optimism in the effort made by Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar. Their 99-run stand was the highlight of the match, as it saw the team's total go to 143 for 8. Though the score was anything but competitive, it provided the team with an opportunity to fight back.
Vettori also talked about the performance of the team in the entire season up until now. Having played eight matches, Sunrisers Hyderabad have won only two games. But Vettori was also hopeful about the future, recalling last season's Royal Challengers Bangalore, which staged a wonderful comeback after having a disastrous beginning to their tournament. He opines that the IPL franchises have the capability of changing their fate with a good performance. Vettori also hopes that his team can realize their form and change the fate of their team in the later matches.
He also noted that, even though the results have not been good, the Sunrisers have had some individual performances, with some players such as Travis and Abhishek Sharma doing well when they are in good form. The team, however, needs to get more consistent and develop relationships among the players. The lack of ability to have more than one or two players perform well in every game has been hurting them this season. Vettori wishes that the team will unite and play as a unit in the future games.
In the future, Vettori underlined that Sunrisers Hyderabad must do much better in each of the three facets of the game. They must bowl better, form partnerships at the batting end, and work on more disciplined fielding. Even though the team has encountered setbacks, Vettori is convinced that Sunrisers Hyderabad can, with the proper mindset and effort, turn their season around and make a comeback. The journey ahead is challenging, but the team is determined to fight it out until the last.
