Tottenham Injury Update: Heung-min Son and Djed Spence
Despite this return, manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed that Son experienced some soreness afterward, which led to his absence from the subsequent Europa League match against AZ Alkmaar. Postecoglou had decided against fielding Son in that game to avoid further risk due to his recent injury.
Heung-min Son
Son has been sidelined for four games after injuring his hamstring during the Europa League victory against Qarabag on September 26. Although he missed the last international break to focus on his recovery, he returned to action in the London derby against West Ham, playing 70 minutes and scoring a goal in Spurs' 4-1 comeback victory.
Unfortunately for Spurs, Son was again absent for their disappointing 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace, who were previously winless. At his pre-match press conference, Postecoglou noted that Son was still not feeling 100% and had missed training leading up to the Palace game. “Sonny is still not right or feeling 100 per cent,” he said. “He won't train today and so [is] unlikely for the weekend, and we'll see how he is beyond that.”
Djed Spence
Djed Spence, who recently signed a new contract with Spurs until 2028, has had limited involvement due to a groin strain suffered in training. He missed the Palace match but has been making progress in his recovery. Postecoglou mentioned, “Getting closer, so we're hoping next week [he will] join back in training.”
Potential Return Dates:
- Heung-min Son: Uncertain for the upcoming fixtures, particularly for the match against Manchester City on October 30 and Aston Villa on November 3.
- Djed Spence: Expected to return to training soon, with a potential return to the squad for either the City match on October 30 or the Villa match on November 3.
Upcoming Fixtures
- October 30: vs. Manchester City (Carabao Cup, Last-16)
- November 3: vs. Aston Villa (Premier League)
- November 7: vs. Galatasaray (Champions League)
Tottenham will be looking to bounce back from their recent loss, and the return of these key players could significantly impact their performance in this crucial period.
