It was a dream come true for the young batter, who couldn't fathom that Kohli, one of his favorite players, knew him personally. This surprise encounter prior to a match turned out to be one of the most memorable moments in Wadhera's career.

It all started when Virat Kohli was talking to Shreyas Iyer prior to the match. In a totally unexpected and nice gesture, Kohli welcomed Wadhera in Punjabi by saying, "Ki haal chaal, Nehal? " that means "How are you doing, Nehal? " It was such a small thing yet it left Wadhera speechless.

He did not expect the cricket legend to recall his name, and it left him with incredible happiness. For the young player, this brief but telling moment was a giant confidence builder. Wadhera, having long wanted to talk to Kohli, used this as the ideal chance to exchange a few words.

"Till last year, I would tell my friends that I wanted to meet Virat bhai once," Wadhera recounted. "That day was a dream come true." "His words were golden words to me," Wadhera mentioned about the phone call with immense regard and admiration for Yuvraj Singh. From being a Mumbai Indians floater to being a backbone middle-order batsman for Punjab Kings, Wadhera's transformation has been nothing less than remarkable. He looks back at his first season with Mumbai Indians in 2023, when the encounter against Jofra Archer was the watershed moment. "When I joined Punjab Kings, I never felt like a new player coming into the team. It was a family from day one," Wadhera revealed.

He feels that this nurturing environment has enabled him to play to the best of his ability. The good relationship between Iyer and coach Ricky Ponting that was established while they were at Delhi Capitals has also come in handy for Punjab Kings. "The team they built in Delhi is paying dividends here. They already had that chemistry from DC, and now they're applying it to newcomers like me," Wadhera described. Iyer's considerate captaincy and his tendency to prioritize the best interests of the team have been a huge asset to the team.
