As WWE evolves, it has become common for legendary figures like The Undertaker, John Cena, and CM Punk to visit NXT and mentor young performers. Current NXT North American Champion Tony D'Angelo recently discussed the invaluable advice he received from Cena and Punk in an interview with "MuscleManMalcolm."
D'Angelo highlighted Cena’s recent visit, where the WWE icon addressed the entire NXT roster, providing crucial insights that resonated with the young stars. “Cena came in and talked to the whole roster and gave us some good advice,” he shared, emphasizing the impact of Cena’s words.
On the other hand, CM Punk, known for his candidness and extensive experience, has also been a source of guidance for D'Angelo. He noted, “Punk is always around when he’s available and he’s watching film and telling us what to do, what not to do.” D'Angelo recounted one of Punk’s key pieces of advice regarding the challenges of social media: “He told me, ‘You don’t let social media — just don’t look at it, 'cause when you’re in the spotlight, you got a lot of people saying a lot of crap in the comments and even DMing you, whatever.’”
D'Angelo acknowledged the toxic environment that can often accompany social media, a sentiment echoed by many wrestlers and personalities who choose to stay away from these platforms. While he may not face the same level of online scrutiny as Punk, he recognized that negativity can arise from fans for seemingly arbitrary reasons.
Reflecting on the nature of social media, D'Angelo advised, “I think that’s the biggest thing, and a lot of people should take that advice because social media is just a lot of people that you’re probably never gonna meet just judging you and saying a bunch of stuff that doesn’t mean anything. They’re not paying your bills... I think the boss is more important, that’s my opinion.”
With the guidance of experienced veterans like Cena and Punk, D'Angelo is navigating the challenges of being in the public eye while focusing on his wrestling career. Their advice highlights the importance of maintaining perspective amid the noise of social media.
